Food Guide // New York City

Sophie and I spent one week in New York and since we ate our way through that week, I thought I'd share a few of my favorites with you.

The Butcher’s Daugther (19 Kenmare St)

Only 10 steps away from our Airbnb we really enjoyed this place called the Butcher’s Daugther. I love the name as they only serve vegetarian and vegan dishes ;) We always had breakfast around 8am since that was the only time we didn’t have to wait in line – that gem is booming! Try their juices and smoothies, they are so yummy!

The Egg Shop (151 Elizabeth St)

Sophie loved their Benedict! The interior is super cute and they really know what to do with those eggs! Egg y’all!

Grey Dog Café (244 Mulberry St)

Their salads are super good. The vibe is relaxed and if you get to sit outside you’re a lucky girl.

Jack’s Wife Freda (224 Lafayette St)

We had to wait for a table quite some time but it’s totally worth it. The food was served super fast and it was delicious! If you made it through the dish you would normally be full but you just can’t miss out on dessert guys!

Shake Shack (11 Madison Eve)

In’n’Out is definitely still my favorite burger spot to go but when in New York it’s Shake Shack. I love their ShackBurger and the fries are good to.

Le Pain Quotidien (100 Grand St)

You can never do wrong with Le Pain! I loved their food in California and I loved it in New York. It’s healthy, it’s delicious and they know how to bake real bread. But don’t only try their breakfast, go there for lunch too – you do not want to miss out on that! #nomnom

Café Gitane (242 Mott St)

Their waffles are delicious! Try to get a table outside and take a picture at the “love wall” afterwards.

Tacombi at Fonda Nolita (267 Elizabeth St)

There’s an actual van inside the location! It’s rustic, cute and makes you feel like you’re somewhere in South America. We got the guacamole and chips first and then added every taco on the menu. There are not too many but I like having only a few things to choose from. Some of them are spicy, some are fishy, just how I like them.

Juice Generation (69 Prince St)

The yummiest juices are to be find at the Juice Generation. I don’t think they do small sized cups but who would want that anyways ;) Everything is made of fresh ingredients and you can actually taste that.

Pizzetteria Brunetti (626 Hudson St)

It’s always hard to choose a pizza place for me because my standards are pretty high. My friend Lucia’s pizza is simply the best (well she’s some part Italian, so I guess she does have the pizza gen) and I couldn’t find a better one since I tried hers – not even in Italy! But for an American pizza the one we had at Brunetti was very good! We were starving that evening as we did a lot of walking and while everyone else was sharing their pizza Sophie and I did demolish one each for themselves.

Rooftop at the Standard (848 Washington St)

Make sure to get up early to save a spot near the glass fence. The atmosphere’s very cool and the view absolutely great. There’s fake grass on the floor which makes it feel like you’re in some park and if you don’t fit on the couches anymore, you can sit on the floor.

Rooftop at the Jane Hotel (113 Jane St)

It’s small but cozy and the perfect spot to have your pre-drinks. I liked the Brooklyn beer a lot and ordered another one right away ;) If you’d like to have a snack, check out the Gitane café near the lobby.

Sugar Factory (46 Gansevoort St))

What a crazy place! There’s huge cocktails with candy inside – CANDY! How awesome is that?! There were quite some people celebrating their birthdays so I guess if it happens to be yours, you should definitely check it out.

Stormy Sundays

It's pretty stormy in Switzerland these days, which is why Sundays mostly are for late breakfast and binge watching tv shows. I personally don't mind as relaxing is what my body needs after long working days.

When I was a kid my mom would always tell me to not play with my food, but I'm a grown up now...

eurovision song contest

we had the best evening on saturday, when my brother and i were invited for dinner and to watch esc (eurovision song contest) at some friends. i honestly never watched the show before but since we were a bunch of people we had a great time! they even printed out some rating paper where you could keep score of the performances! i was taken aback when i saw the austrian contestant - a woman (who's actual name is tom neuwirth) with a beard and a tiny waist! she actually won that thing - congrats austria! i think she's got a beautiful voice and the song could totally be from a james bond movie! but enough of that, you should make up your own mind and watch the youtube video here. i also liked (in no particular order): finland, spain (disney like), uk, denmark, (bruno mars-ish) iceland and norway. did anyone else watch the esc finals?

dinner was so delicious: salom, patato wedges, asparagus, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes

barcelona food guide

i'm pretty sure i gained like 1 or 2 kilos during my stay in barcelona - the tapas were way too good, you know ;) that's why i would like to recommend you my three favorite places to eat. let's start with:

la poma (la rambla 117, 08002 barcelona)
the super cute interior reminds on a country side house but with the wide open space and the window front it looks very modern and inviting. you definitely should try the veggie lasagne and the pizzas.
via
taller de tapas (comtal 28, via laietana)
i enjoyed the best tapas at this charming place. the waiter was very attentive and the food was prepared fresh and super fast. the portions were big enough and the prize totally okay for what we got for it :)

ocaña (plaça reial 131415, 08002)
this restaurant was the cutest! it's located at plaça reial and the colorful vintage tables and chairs outside caught my attention immediately. since it started raining we went inside for dessert. gosh, you definitely need to taste the carrot cake! pure amazingness! and it gets even better because the interior is so freaking charming! the seats are so comfortable, we didn't recognize the time flying by and sat there for 3 hours!! i know this sounds weird but you gotta use the restrooms....haha..seriousely, such a pretty place xD and you can't say that from a lot other restrooms, right?! you can actually look over plaça reial while washing your hands on the golden sink! How awesome is this?!

hot summer nights

hi sweethearts

on friday we threw our house warming party and prepared some appatizer for our guests. the night included playing the guitar, singing latin songs, drinking lots of cocktails and having fun talking with friends i hardly get to see. all in all, we had an awesome time!

the chefs

hi love bugs,

my roomie and i both love to cook and what’s better than a cooking session together after work. we’d have some drinks and talk about the day. although, we sometimes just listen to music and sing along, no talking at all. we make the perfect team since ally knows how to cook and prepare food i don’t. on the other hand she doesn’t like to chop veggies or use the oven. she also stopped asking for everything and is now just going to get ;) „the list“ is now a rarely seen friend but still ready in case of a relapse. honestly, i’m pretty sure ally is going to hit the 10 mark line sooner or later, which mean i’d like you to keep suggesting “punishments” for the big day ;)

12 Mai 2013

i missed you, bro

hi sweethearts,

i feel pretty lonely at home since my brother moved out to zurich about a month ago. i haven't seen him much anyways because he's like the busiest person i know. though, this saturday i've got to see him! big yayyy! i drove this 1.5h and got surprised with a delicious lunch (little baked rosemary patatoes, chicken with a tomato/garlic paste and a greek salad)! i ate way toooo much and full as a tick we strolled around the city the whole afternoon. it was truly a perfect day.

Eat Me

Hi love bugs,

Since I'm afraid of gaining weight here in America (I already gained 3 kg in Switzerland), I hardly try to eat healthy and just started to do some exercises. Here is what I ate these days:

By the way, it was delicious! (That's the problem with the food, right? It's way too good ;))

Sunday, Breakfast @ Urth Café, Santa Monica
Monday, Lunch @ Good Stuff, Redondo Beach
Monday, Dinner @ Yum Thai, Redondo Beach
Tuesday, Lunch @Home, Redondo Beach

Cha Cha

On Friday I met a friend for dinner. We haven't seen each other since vacation in July and there was plenty of talk needs. Unbelievable what all happens in almost two months. We went to the Cha Cha. My friend had an aloe vera drink and spicy curry rice. I took a berry-kiwi fruit drink and the "variation of dunkys". Looks yummy right? Unfortunately, I forgot my camera at home and I had to shoot the photos with the iPhone. So sorry for the bad quality.
